Amanda Crew (born June 5, 1986) is a Canadian film and television actress. She is best known for her work on the television series Whistler playing Carrie Miller, and for starring in the feature length films Final Destination 3 (2006), Sex Drive (2008) and more recently in The Haunting in Connecticut (2009).
Biography
Crew was born in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. Her acting career got her start when she was cast in the musical Dragon Tales in fourth grade. Three agents contacted her, and she has been acting ever since. When she first began her acting career, she did a Coca-Cola commercial and acted in stage plays like Stalling, Cordstons Courts, and Langley, the Musical. She trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2003 with sessions at Tarlington Training and the Arousal Theatre School. The Academy has trained such successful film stars Anne Hathaway, Paul Rudd and Johnny Knoxville.
Career
Crew got her big break at age 18 when she landed the role as Tanis McTaggart on the YTV teen dramedy series 15/Love. After leaving the show in 2005, she guest starred on the television series Life As We Know It and the hit CW show Smallville. She also portrayed Carrie Miller on the CTV drama series Whistler for which she won Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series at the Vancouver-based Leo Awards.
Crew got her Hollywood break when she landed a role in the blockbuster film Final Destination 3 as Julie Christensen, sister of the protagonist’s character. The film went on to international success, grossing $19,173,094 in its opening weekend and eventually grossing $112,798,051 worldwide.
Amanda then continued to star in several successful Hollywood productions including She’s the Man where she co-starred with Amanda Bynes and she co-starred with Josh Zuckerman in Sex Drive. In 2009, Crew starred in the horror film The Haunting in Connecticut. The film opened at #2 at the box office and ultimately grossed $55,325,526 in the United States and Canada alone, making it Amanda’s highest grossing picture to date and went on to make $72,742,856 worldwide.
In 2009, Crew was cast alongside an A-List cast including Zac Efron and Kim Basinger in Charlie St. Cloud. It was announced she would take the role of Tess Carroll in the movie which is scheduled to be released June 11, 2010. She is also set to star in Breaking the Girl and the indie film Repeaters with Dustin Milligan.
